Why are my practice priority topics locked for 90 days?
Sound familiar?
"I want to change one of our priority topics but it won't let me." "Why can't I swap a priority I set last month?" "What happens during the 90 days?" "Did I just commit us to the wrong topic for three months?" The lock is deliberate, and it exists to protect the investment the platform makes in each topic you choose.
What's happening
When you confirm a practice priority topic on the Clinic Profile page at https://content.co-kinetic.com/my-clinic/clinic-profile, that topic locks for 90 days. During that time the platform runs deep, multi-step research on the topic for your practice and builds out its full content architecture: a comprehensive hub page (the pillar) plus a family of supporting pages, each answering one specific patient question, all designed to link together.
Your priorities also strongly influence how your plan is ranked: content belonging to a priority topic is lifted in the scoring, and a confirmed priority not already covered by the plan gets its own plan item, carrying a priority badge, whenever an eligible piece exists 🎯.
Why it works this way
Topical authority is not built by one article: AI search engines cite clinics that demonstrate a whole connected cluster of depth on a topic, published and given time to be discovered. The 90-day window is roughly what it takes for the research to be done properly, the cluster to be built and published, and AI engines to start registering it. If priorities could be swapped every fortnight, the platform would forever be abandoning half-built clusters, and you would pay for the research without ever collecting the visibility 📈.
Think of it like a course of treatment: changing the plan every week guarantees nothing gets the chance to work. Committing for a cycle is what produces the result.
What to do now
- If you are choosing priorities now, choose deliberately at https://content.co-kinetic.com/my-clinic/clinic-profile: the topics you most want the practice known for, ideally ones a clinician's profile visibly backs up.
- If a locked priority is genuinely wrong (a typo-level mistake, or a service you have stopped offering), tell us here in the chat: we would rather fix a real error than hold you to it.
- While the lock runs, work with it: the plan at https://content.co-kinetic.com/my-clinic/plan will surface the priority's content: creating and publishing those pieces is exactly what makes the 90 days count.
- Want a non-priority topic to rank higher meanwhile? There are other levers: see "How do I push a topic up my content plan?"
The question behind the question
"What if I picked the wrong priority and I want to change it?" A priority is rarely wasted even if your emphasis shifts: the cluster built during those 90 days keeps earning visibility for that topic permanently. And with up to three priority slots plus clinician niches also activating topics, one imperfect pick does not bottleneck your whole plan 🙂. But if you feel strongly that a priority is genuinely wrong for your practice, get in touch in the chat — we can apply an admin override and change it for you.
The next question is usually...
- What do practice priorities actually do?
- How do I push a topic up my content plan?
- What are niches and primary niches, and how do they shape my plan?
- What should I set up first on the Clinic Profile page?
Still stuck? This usually means...
- You want a topic on the plan that is not a priority. Add it as a clinician's niche (their declared expertise activates the topic for the clinic), or mark competing suggestions as not relevant so it rises. "How do I push a topic up my content plan?" walks through every lever.
- The 90 days have passed and it still will not change. Tell us in the chat and we will check your account.
- You are worried the locked topic will crowd out everything else. It will not: priorities get reserved slots (up to three) and a boost, but the rest of the plan is open competition on measured evidence.
