How do I push a topic up my content plan?
Sound familiar?
"We really want to be known for running injuries and it's halfway down the plan." "Can I just drag things into a different order?" "How do I get a topic onto the plan that isn't there at all?" There is no drag-to-reorder, and that is deliberate, but there are two real levers that genuinely move a topic up. Here they are, with exactly where to pull each one.
What's happening
The plan ranks every candidate piece on measured evidence: search demand, the state of your site, topic-area strength, your team's expertise, your declared priorities. You cannot overrule that evidence by hand, but you can change it, because two of those factors are entirely yours to control šļø. Strengthen either one and the topic's score genuinely rises.
Lever 1: make it a practice priority. Your practice can declare up to three priority topics: the things you want to be known for. Declaring one does three concrete things:
- The topic gets research treatment: it is properly researched for your practice, and it activates or reinforces the matching topic area.
- It gets a genuine ranking boost in the plan's scoring.
- Once confirmed, a priority not already covered by the plan gets its own plan item, carrying a priority badge, whenever an eligible piece exists. A reserved slot, not just a nudge.
Priorities live in the Practice Priority Topics section of your Clinic Profile page at https://content.co-kinetic.com/my-clinic/clinic-profile (you first set them during onboarding). An unlocked slot can be edited or added to right there ā save, then press Confirm and start research. A confirmed topic locks for 90 days while its research is built. The full mechanics are in "What do practice priorities actually do?"
Lever 2: strengthen the expertise signal. The plan weighs whether a topic matches a clinician's declared expertise, and how strongly. So:
- Have one or more clinicians add the topic to their profile at https://content.co-kinetic.com/my-clinic/clinic-profile: as a condition they most often treat, a treatment or technique that sets them apart, or a patient group they specialise in. A declared specialism activates that topic area for your clinic, which is what makes the topic's content plannable at all.
- Make it central, not a passing mention. A topic named specifically, with its short depth detail filled in, at the heart of a clinician's profile sends a far stronger signal than one entry in a long list. If it is genuinely central to what they do, make it their primary niche ā the closer a topic sits to what a clinician is most known for, the more strongly the match counts. The plan reads the strongest clinician evidence for each topic, so the surest route is making it central to the clinician who genuinely carries it.
"What are niches and primary niches, and how do they shape my plan?" covers this lever in full.
Why it works this way
Both levers work by adding real evidence, not by overriding it. That is what keeps the plan honest: a topic rises because your practice has genuinely committed to it and your team genuinely carries the expertise, which is exactly what AI search will verify when the content is published ā .
Honest framing: these two levers raise a topic's ranking substantially, but neither guarantees the top spot. The plan still weighs everything else, including real search demand and what already exists on your site. A topic can be your declared priority, authored by your most expert clinician, and still sit below a piece that closes a bigger gap this week. Both will get done; the order is about impact.
What to do now
- Decide which lever fits. Practice-level ambition ("we want to be known for this"): Lever 1. Clinician-level expertise ("our physio is brilliant at this"): Lever 2. They stack, so for a topic you really care about, pull both.
- For Lever 1: open the Practice Priority Topics section at https://content.co-kinetic.com/my-clinic/clinic-profile, add the topic to a free slot, save, and press Confirm and start research.
- For Lever 2: open https://content.co-kinetic.com/my-clinic/clinic-profile, open the clinician's profile, and add the topic to the relevant section (conditions, treatments and techniques, or patient groups), filling in the short depth detail while you are there.
- Then watch the plan at https://content.co-kinetic.com/my-clinic/plan. When enough has genuinely changed, the Refresh Content Plan button arms; one click recomposes the plan around the new evidence.
The question behind the question
"So I can't just have it my way?" You can have it your way twice over: reserved slots for your confirmed priorities, and removal of anything you mark "Not relevant" (suppressed for the next 90 days). What you cannot do is make the evidence say something it doesn't, and that is a feature š: it is the difference between a visibility plan and a wish list.
The next question is usually...
- What do practice priorities actually do?
- What are niches and primary niches, and how do they shape my plan?
- How is my content plan organised, and how does it decide what goes where?
Still stuck? This usually means...
- You pulled both levers and the plan has not moved. The plan recomposes at regeneration, not instantly: wait for the Refresh Content Plan button to arm, then press it and check again. "When does my content plan change or refresh?" explains the timing.
- The topic still is not on the plan at all. Check a clinician genuinely carries it in their profile ā a topic nobody on the team is qualified to author cannot be planned. If someone does carry it and it still will not appear, tell us in the chat with the topic name.
- You want to change a confirmed priority to make room for it. Priorities lock for 90 days, but if you feel strongly, get in touch: "Why are my practice priority topics locked for 90 days?" covers the options.
