How do I connect my own domain to my Co-Kinetic site?
Co-Kinetic Sites comes with the Clinical Content System, and our team sets it up for you. If your clinic isn't subscribed yet, you can see what the Clinical Content System includes.
Sound familiar?
"Our site is at a cokinetic.ai address. Can it use our own web address?" "What happens to our old website's address?" "Do we need a developer for this?" Connecting your own domain is a short job, and you're guided through each step 🔗.
What's happening
Every Co-Kinetic site gets an address automatically: .cokinetic.ai. When you're ready, you can connect your own domain (for example yourclinic.co.uk) instead.
To connect it, you add a few DNS records with whoever manages your domain (the company you bought it from, or your IT person). We give you the exact records to add and let you know when your domain is live.
Why it works this way
Your domain belongs to you, and only you (or the people you trust with it) can point it somewhere new. So we give you the exact records and let you know when it's connected, rather than asking for your domain login 🔐.
What to do now
- Tell us in the chat which domain you want to use.
- You'll get the exact DNS records to add.
- Add them with your domain provider, or pass them to whoever manages your domain.
- We'll let you know when your domain is live. DNS changes can take a while to spread across the internet, so don't worry if it isn't instant.
If you want more detail
- Only the records you're given are needed. Nothing to do with your email is touched.
- If a domain is disconnected later, its old address redirects to your site for 30 days, so links and bookmarks keep working while you update them.
The question behind the question
"Will we lose anything we had on our old website?" Your old site stays where it is until you point your domain at your Co-Kinetic site. Before you switch, talk to us about which old pages are worth keeping: see "I'm rebuilding my website from scratch. Should I migrate all my old content?" 🙂.
The next question is usually...
- What is Co-Kinetic Sites, and what's on my website?
- How do I change how my Co-Kinetic site looks?
Still stuck? This usually means...
- The domain has been "waiting" for a long time. Check the records were added exactly as given, with no typos and nothing extra. If they look right and it's been more than a day, tell us in the chat.
- You don't know who manages your domain. Look for the company you pay each year for the web address, or ask whoever built your old website.
- Your email stopped working after a change. Tell us in the chat straight away. The records we give you never touch email, so something else has changed.
