How do credits and email verification work?

Sound familiar?

You have seen the credits number at the top of your screen and the mentions of "verification", and you are not sure what you are spending, on what, or why your imported addresses need "verifying" at all. Or you've run out of credits and want to top up. Two minutes here saves recurring confusion 💳.

What's happening

Credits pay for two things, and only these two. There are no charges for the AI writing tools.

• Verifying email addresses. This checks each address really exists and accepts mail before you send to it. Verifying 1,000 addresses uses 75 credits (£6.00).
• Sending emails. Sending 1,000 emails uses 22.5 credits (£1.80).

So verifying 1,000 new addresses and sending each of them one email uses 97.5 credits (£7.80). A credit is worth 8p.

Verification is the more expensive of the two, but each address is only verified once, when it first comes into your account (an address is never checked, or charged for, a second time, even if you upload the same list again months later). After that, you only pay for sends.

We keep the subscription price low and charge for email by use. A clinic that sends a lot pays for what it sends; a clinic that sends a little doesn't pay for anyone else's.

Why it works this way

Verification is what protects your sender reputation. Sending to dead or mistyped addresses gets you bounces; enough bounces and inbox providers start filing you, and everyone on our platform, under junk. Checking each address once, before the first send, helps keep your emails out of spam folders 🙂. What to do now

Everything lives in one place: click your name in the top right-hand corner, choose Settings, and scroll to the bottom of the first tab, Account Settings. You can also go straight there: https://app.co-kinetic.com/profile

1. Check your balance. It shows next to your name in the top right of every page, and as Remaining Credits in the Credits panel.
2. Buy credits. In the Credits panel, choose a package from Select credits package, then press Purchase Credits. The packages are:
   • 50 credits (£4)
   • 100 credits (£8)
   • 250 credits (£20)
   • 500 credits (£40)
   • 1,000 credits (£80)
   • 2,000 credits (£160)
3. Switch on Credits Auto Top-up if you'd rather never run out. When your balance runs low, your saved card is charged for a package and you get a "Credits topped up" notification. It's off until you turn it on.
4. Plan a big import or campaign with the calculator. Underneath, the Co-Kinetic Credit Calculator asks "How many email addresses will you verify?" and "How many emails will you send?". Choose your currency, press Calculate Credits, and it tells you how many credits you need and what they cost.

A worked example

You import 1,000 new contacts and send them a four-email welcome series.

• Verifying the 1,000 addresses, once: 75 credits (£6.00).
• Sending 4,000 emails: 90 credits (£7.20).
• Total: 165 credits (£13.20). Later emails to the same people use only send credits.

The question behind the question

"Why did my contact import use up credits before I sent anything?" That is verification doing its job: each new address is checked before it can be safely emailed. It's a one-off cost per address, and it's what keeps every email after it out of spam folders. Use the calculator before a big import so it's never a surprise 📊.

Still stuck? This usually means...

• Emails have stopped going out. Check your balance first. When it runs out, sending stops until you top up, and carries on once you have credits again. Switch on Auto Top-up to avoid this.
• You are not sure how many credits something will cost. Use the calculator: it exists for exactly this.
• Some imported contacts weren't added. Addresses that fail verification are left out, so you don't pay to send to them. The import's skipped-rows file lists them with the reason.
• Your balance looks wrong. Tell us in the chat with roughly what you expected and when: we can trace exactly where credits went.
